Newcastle firm makes waves at MIPIM

Newcastle engineering firm Patrick Parsons has picked up six prospective contracts worth millions of pounds in the first two days of its first attendence at the MIPIM property event in France.

Working with a second firm, EPD, Patrick Parsons has developed a system for installing white water courses, a system used at the Tees Barrage with funding from development agency One North East.

A new white water course in Glasgow will be submitted for planning permission in the next couple of months; at MIPIM, prospects have been uncovered across the UK and in Germany. Costing less than £1 million, the system is also a source of renewable power and is in demand for emergency services training as well as sporting and leisure clubs.

"It's a low-cost way to stimulate activity in areas that need regenerating," Patrick Parsons managing director Peter Stienlet told Renaissance. "Water is a big attraction for lots of developments worldwide. Coming to MIPIM gave us access to a huge number of developments - but to make use of that you have to have something fresh and new to offer. We have that and we're getting interest from Stuttgart to Scotland."
