Newcastle firm makes waves at MIPIM

Newcastle engineering firm Patrick Parsons has picked up six prospective contracts worth millions of pounds in the first two days of its first attendence at the MIPIM property event in France.
Working with a second firm, EPD, Patrick Parsons has developed a system for installing white water courses, a system used at the Tees Barrage with funding from development agency One North East. read more
Contentious discussion kicks off new blog

Newcastle developer Adam Serfontein has opened a blog, linked to Renaissance Magazine, to share thoughts and discussion about development and regeneration in Newcastle.
Serfontein is managing director of Hanro, the company behind the proposed Strawberry Place scheme and the successful Cooper's Studios development.
Serfontein's opening blog asks: "Has the planning process improved in NewcastleGateshead?". He states: "If we are to stand a chance of attracting inward investment, which is the only real way to grow our city meaningfully, we must have buildings of scale and quality. We must demonstrate that these may be delivered with the public sector being part of the team and not an opposing force."
Newcastle City Council has been quick to respond, with director of environment and regeneration David Slater commenting: "We want developers to get a good quality service, from pre-application to post-development, adoption and maintenance where this is appropriate. We believe we are further on with this than Adam suggests, but let’s see what others have to say…" read more

The first in the series features Neil Osborne, director at surveyor Storeys SSP. He describes what he sees as NewcastleGateshead's greatest opportunities, as the city embarks on the next phase of its regeneration. read more
Renaissance issue six: out now

The sixth instalment of Renaissance, NewcastleGateshead's regeneration and investment magazine, is published and ready to be launched at the international property event MIPIM in Cannes, France, which runs from 16-19 March.
Included in issue six is all the latest news from the regeneration of one of the country’s most exciting urban centres.
The magazine also features an examination of the role played by city development company 1NG, a look at how Science City status is changing the region, and an in-depth look at the enviable quality of life available in the North East.

Mitsubishi wind centre jobs boost for Tyneside

Hundreds of jobs could be coming to the North East with the creation of a £100 million wind turbine research centre. (Sourced from the Journal.)
Mitsubishi Power Systems Europe has signed a memorandum of understanding with the government to invest the cash in research and development into green energy. read more
