North East councils reveal first joint panel

The five North East local authorities that make up the Tyne & Wear Metropolitan Authority have appointed their first joint legal panel.

They will advise primarily on commercial, regeneration and major projects work, including a Newcastle waste management project. (Sourced from the Lawyer). read more

England's 2018 World Cup bid stadia selected

St James' Park in Newcastle will be part of England's 2018 World Cup bid after being named as a candidate host alongside 11 other cities on Wednesday. (Sourced from BBC.)
 
The other stadia will be Sunderland's Stadium of Light, Birmingham's Villa Park, the new Nottingham Forest stadium, Elland Road in Leeds, Sheffield's Hillsborough stadium, , the new Ashton Vale stadium in Bristol, Plymouth's Home Park, Milton Keynes and Old Trafford and the City of Manchester Stadium.
 
Applications from Derby, Hull and Leicester were rejected. read more

Following the completion of the newly restored railway arches on Westgate Road, Newcastle upon Tyne and the completion of the Forth Street development last year, today storeys:ssp is hosting an open morning featuring both developments.
 
At the Westgate Road Arches, the developer Spacia has worked closely with English Heritage and Railway Heritage Trust and undergone a lengthy and intricate redevelopment of these railway arches, to provide five individual high quality open plan office and retail units. read more

Northern Regeneration Summit

The Northern Regeneration Summit is to take place at the City of Manchester Stadium on 20-21 October.
 
A list of speakers headed by transport secretary Lord Adonis, who is to highlight the Government’s proposals for the implementation of high-speed rail, will be discussing the future of regeneration and its impacts on the north of England. read more

Taking Newcastle Forward

Newcastle City Council’s annual stakeholder event will take place on Tuesday 13 and Thursday 15 October in the Exhibition Hall at the Great North Museum.
